Athens became a vibrant meeting point for science, education, and the performing arts on April 25–26, 2026, as the 12th Learning Science Through Theater (LSTT) Festival was successfully held at the premises of Ellinogermaniki Agogi. The event brought together students, teachers, families, and the wider educational community in a dynamic celebration of interdisciplinary learning and creativity.
The first part of the Festival featured 10 original theatrical performances developed by 9 school units from across Greece, engaging more than 300 students from all educational levels, Primary, Lower Secondary, and Upper Secondary education. Over the course of two days, young participants transformed scientific concepts into compelling stage narratives, demonstrating how science can be communicated through imagination, storytelling, and artistic expression.
What made this year’s Festival particularly remarkable was not only the quality of the performances but also its reach. The event welcomed more than 1,500 people in person, including students, educators, and families, while simultaneously expanding its impact through digital means, with over 1,700 viewers following the Festival via live streaming. This strong engagement highlights the growing interest in innovative educational approaches that combine science and the arts.
The Festival represents the culmination of this creative educational process, giving students the opportunity to present their work to a wide audience, while enhancing their self-confidence, collaboration, and creative expression. The performances are available on Science View’s YouTube Channel:
At its core, the Festival is part of the broader Learning Science Through Theater (LSTT) initiative, an internationally recognized educational approach that promotes STEAM education by integrating science with performing arts. Through this methodology, students develop critical thinking, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of scientific phenomena in meaningful and engaging ways.
Learning Science Through Theater (LSTT) is part of the network of National Festivals supported by the STEAM Innovation project, following the STEAM IDEAS Square framework and its modular approach to fostering innovation, collaboration, and transdisciplinary STEAM education. The STEAM Innovation project will offer to selected students the opportunity to represent their work internationally at the STEAM Innovation Festival in Matera, Italy, from the 11th to 12th of September 2026.
The 2026 edition was further enriched by the contribution of key European and educational initiatives. The L-STEAM project supports innovative pedagogies that merge performing arts with STEAM learning, while the STEAM NEXT STEP Academy provides professional development opportunities for teachers, enabling them to integrate interdisciplinary approaches into their classrooms.
Importantly, the Festival does not conclude with the live performances in Athens. The event unfolds in two distinct phases. The first part, held on April 25–26, showcased live performances, while the second part will take place on May 16–17, 2026, featuring 17 additional performances from 17 school units across Greece. These performances, created and submitted in video format, will be presented online and evaluated during a dedicated streamed event, open to the public through the Science View YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/scienceview).
This dual-format approach expands participation and accessibility, allowing schools from all regions of Greece to contribute to the Festival and share their work with a broader audience.
The Learning Science Through Theater Festival 2026 once again confirmed its role as a leading platform for educational innovation in Greece. By bridging science and the arts, it fosters a more inclusive, creative, and transdisciplinary vision of education, one that empowers students not only to understand the world, but also to interpret and communicate it in imaginative and impactful ways.
