The STEAM Innovation Portuguese Festival is officially on the calendar, and the dedicated webpage is now live! This festival is part of the STEAM Innovation project, a European initiative involving partners from Greece, Cyprus and Italy as well, aimed at promoting maker education and design thinking in schools.
Taking place on 29 April 2026, in Oeiras, Portugal, the STEAM Innovation Portuguese National Festival will be a vibrant showcase of student-led projects developed throughout the school year, using Design Thinking, maker methodologies, and STEAM competencies as a foundation.
Designed to be an event by students, for students, young makers will be able to proudly present their work in a fair-style exhibition format to peers, teachers, researchers, and professionals.
The event is being organised by the STEAM Innovation’s Portuguese partner NUCLIO, in collaboration with the III Oeiras Science Clubs Meeting and the support of local higher education institutions Instituto Superior Técnico (Campus Oeiras), INESC-ID, ITQB-NOVA and the Oeiras Municipality (Oeiras Valley).
Who Can Participate?
The Festival is open to schools and student teams in Portugal that have developed maker and STEAM projects during the 2025–2026 school year, particularly within the scope of STEAM Innovation.
Students must be at least 11 years old and accompanied by, at least, one responsible teacher. Project registration is carried out by the responsible teacher.
Projects may explore areas such as:
- Electronics and programming
- Robotics and sensors
- 3D modelling and 3D printing
- Engineering and prototyping
- Digital media, video and audio production
- And many other creative STEAM approaches
Participants can submit their projects until March 30, 2026.

During the event, a multidisciplinary jury will select three outstanding projects to represent Portugal at the STEAM Innovation Transnational Festival, which will take place in Matera, Italy, alongside student teams from Greece, Cyprus, and Italy.
The STEAM Innovation Portuguese National Festival is a celebration of student voice, creativity, collaboration, and meaningful learning.
