An Inspiration for our School Workshops

From 6 December to 6 January, Naples celebrates science, creativity, and imagination, perfectly mirroring the STEAM Innovation project’s hands-on activities currently being activated in schools of Greece, Cyprus, Portugal and Italy.

As partners of the STEAM Innovation project begin running music, theatre, and tinkering workshops across participating schools, Naples is hosting an event that beautifully reflects the spirit of our work. From 6 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, Città della Scienza in Naples is presenting its annual Christmas programme, “La Scienza illumina il tuo Natale” (“Science Lights Up Your Christmas”), offering an extensive calendar of activities designed to combine festive traditions with scientific exploration.

The month-long event invites children, families, and educators to experience science in an accessible, playful, and engaging way. Visitors can take part in creative labs, hands-on experiments, interactive science shows, demonstrations on sustainability, astronomy sessions, guided tours, and arts-and-science activities that bridge creativity with curiosity. The atmosphere is warm, immersive, and designed to spark wonder—an ideal context for learning beyond traditional educational settings.

A Strong Connection to our Project STEAM Innovation

The timing of this event aligns perfectly with the current phase of our project. While Città della Scienza brings communities together through interactive learning, STEAM Innovation partners are doing the same in schools—activating three central strands of the project:

  • Music workshops, where students explore rhythm, sound, and expression through STEAM-infused activities.
  • Theatre workshops, designed to strengthen communication, creativity, and emotional intelligence through performative arts.
  • Tinkering workshops, where learners experiment, build, test, and invent, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Just like Città della Scienza’s Christmas initiative, our approach emphasises learning by doing, blending scientific inquiry with artistic expression. Both contexts show how STEAM is most effective when it connects hands, minds, and emotions, offering learners the chance to explore real-world concepts in imaginative and inclusive ways.

A National Source of Inspiration

Città della Scienza has long been a national reference point for science communication and informal education. Its Christmas programme demonstrates how cultural institutions can create meaningful public engagement by allowing science, creativity, and culture to converge. This vision resonates deeply with the STEAM Innovation project, which aims to rethink how learning can be experienced in schools—making it more collaborative, interdisciplinary, and rooted in active participation.

As our activities continue to unfold in classrooms across partner countries, events like “La Scienza illumina il tuo Natale” provide valuable inspiration. They remind us of the potential of STEAM to create inclusive learning environments where students’ curiosity is stimulated and their creativity is celebrated.
