STEAM INNOVATION is set to transition from its initial development stage to the school implementation phase in September 2025. Across Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Italy, more than 50 students and 10 teachers per country (over 200 European students in total) will engage in STEAM activities developed locally, supported by the consortium partners Science View in Greece, INQUIRIUM in Cyprus, NUCLIO in Portugal, and Materahub in Italy. Students and educators will participate in three core training modules:

  • Making & Tinkering in Portugal: This training module will include workshops and activities in makerspaces, such as Change Makers in Cascais, which are collaborative workspaces equipped with a variety of tools and materials to encourage experimentation and innovation. Students will be able to develop their hands-on projects, allowing them to exercise their creativity, design thinking and enhance their problem-solving and digital fabrication skills.
  • Science Theatre in Greece: Greece has a rich theatrical history, being home to several well-preserved ancient theatres from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Thus, they are perfect candidates for the implementation of interactive theatre projects. The implementation will be based on the Learning Science Through Theater (https://lstt.eu/) approach that has been tested for more than 10 years in Greece. These artistic projects help students dramatise scientific and environmental themes, deepening both subject‑matter understanding and strengthening their communication skills through performance.
  • Music in Italy and Cyprus: Music plays a significant role in Italian and Cypriot society and is a key element of their cultural identity. Building on this influence, students in Italy and Cyprus will compose and analyse musical pieces that illustrate scientific principles such as acoustics and data sonification, blending artistic expression with STEAM concepts.

Each module will run across multiple sessions, culminating in local exhibitions and festivals that gives students an opportunity to showcase their projects to the school, local and national community.

Through all these activities, students will develop their critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and digital skills as they move from conceptual design to physical realisation of STEAM projects. At the same time, teachers will also gain access to training materials, best practice guides and mentoring to help them integrate STEAM pedagogy into regular curricula. The implementation phase will end in February 2026, a milestone that will be marked by the 2nd STEAM INNOVATION Meeting in Portugal, where partners will join students and teachers in a makerspace workshop to celebrate and reflect on their achievements.
